Dutch Stroopwafel (s)
A Dutch Stroopwafel; you can’t get any more Dutch than this.
Of course, there are other stereotypes about the Dutch that exist, but Stroopwafels are the one that, in my experience, everyone around the world like.
What is a Dutch Stroopwafel?
Basically, it is two layers of cookie with a thin layer of caramel in between. They are eaten as a 4pm snack, an in-between or when you drink your 10am coffee.
But here’s the trick. In order for the Dutch Stroopwafel to be at its best, it needs to be a bit warm. So here’s what you do: take your cup of coffee, take out a stroopwafel and place it on top of your coffee cup. Leave it there for 2 to 3 minutes. After 2 to 3 minutes the stroopwafel is nice and soft-ish and will taste even better. Trust me. I’m Dutch; I know!
