- Do prepare thoroughly
- Don’t start negotiating immediately; don’t be too gullible
- Don’t believe all the flattery
- Make sure you have leverage in your negotiation
- Make small steps
- There is no substitute for living in another country; it’s important to spend time in that country
- You can’t jump over your own shadow
- Some Americans are smart; we, as Americans, can assume the best in others unless otherwise proven.
